So How Long Have You Been Selling Real Estate?

That's the question I want to ask when I'm working with a client who has a family member or friend advising them on how things should be going during the home buying or selling process.  As a Snellville Realtor, I take pride in staying abreast of current trends and educating and advising my clients about those trends so that they can make the best buying or selling decision for themselves.

My job is made much more difficult when a third party who is not a real estate professional is on the sidelines giving my client incorrect information or contradicting the advice that I am giving.  It doesn't matter that your dad purchased a dozen rental properties in the 1990's.  That fact does not make him a real estate expert.  It doesn't matter that when your cousin short sold his house, it only took 45 days.  It doesn't matter that you've read all about short sales on the Internet and you've talked to two co-workers who have recently short sold their homes, but never come across anything about the seller making a financial contribution to make the deal work.

This is a market like nothing we've ever experienced. Unless a person is out in the trenches working in this market daily, they have no way of understanding all of its complexities.  Moreover, every real estate transaction is unique.  It's dangerous to take a cookie cutter approach to buying and selling real estate.

Do you trust your real estate agent?  Do you believe he or she has your best interests at heart?  Do you believe that your agent wants to help you achieve the best possible outcome?  If you answered "yes" to these questions, stop second guessing the information and advice you're receiving.  Thank your friend or family member for trying to help you out and let them know that you're working with a great Realtor.
